— About

Hi, there.
We are Rama Shala.

We're a family-focused yoga retreat on the south coast of Sri Lanka. We teach the disciplines we love — aerial silks, kundalini, breathwork, therapeutic yoga, sound healing, Muay Thai — and we built a whole second shala for your children, because they deserve their own practice too.

Trusted by travelling families, solo seekers, and slow honeymooners, Rama Shala is small on purpose. Teachers know your name and your knees. Food comes from the garden. Mornings begin with birdsong and end with singing bowls under the palms.

Our mission is to help families
breathe, move, and remember
how to be together.

Early Days

01

Early Days

Rama Shala began as a family home on the south coast of Sri Lanka — a modest patch of jungle with palm trees, a well, and the kind of quiet that makes you exhale before you know you were holding your breath. We started teaching friends. Friends brought their children. The children asked for their own space.

The First Silks

02

The First Silks

We hung our first aerial silks between two mango trees. What started as a curiosity became the heart of the practice — decompressing spines, disarming grown-ups, and turning even the shyest child into a small, laughing acrobat. The shala grew around the silks.

A Home for Families

03

A Home for Families

We built a dedicated kids' shala because our own children wanted to fly too. Today, parents can practise while their kids move through yoga, gymnastics, Muay Thai, art and movement — held by teachers who know their names and their moods.

Sound & Stillness

04

Sound & Stillness

We added sound healing, kundalini, therapeutic yoga, and breathwork — the practices that quiet the nervous system and let the body remember itself. Every week closes with a bath of singing bowls under the stars.

What's Next

05

What's Next

We are still, and always, a home. As Rama Shala grows, our compass stays the same: small groups, slow food, honest teaching, and a place where families — of every shape — feel adopted from the moment they arrive.

— Our core values

"The breath comes first.
Everything else follows."

01

Meet people where they are.

Every body, every age, every level. We teach the person in front of us — not the pose in the book.

02

Family is the practice.

Kids belong on the mat, in the kitchen, at the table. Retreat doesn't mean leaving them behind.

03

Slow is the point.

Slow food, slow mornings, slow breath. We resist the urge to fill every minute so you can hear yourself again.

04

Teach with honesty.

No mystique, no gatekeeping. Our teachers explain what they're doing and why — in plain language.

05

The land looks after us.

We grow what we can, buy from neighbours, and leave the jungle a little wilder than we found it.

We're always looking for
passionate teachers
who want to make a difference.
